If you are just starting out follow this 5 part system with your easy to learn magic tricks and you will soon become a popular magician who is in demand for bookings. Part 1 - Organise all of your material This part is key to getting started. Once you have identified all the magic tricks you intend to learn it is vital to gather together all the parts you need for each trick including the scripts you will need to learn to create each illusion. In some cases the material you need may be quite simple. For example, a deck of cards if you are learning card tricks. If you are performing the spoon bend trick all you need is a spoon. But, if you intend to learn the coin in the bottle trick more materials will be needed including a selection of different kinds of bottles. Part 2 - Understand all the instructions on how to perform the trick This part needs some degree of personal discipline. Reading instructions is very boring and the temptation is to charge ahead before fully understanding how the designer of the trick intended it to work. If the instructions are well written this part will be easy, but often you will need to read the instructions several times as you practice the trick to fully understand how to achieve the illusion the designed intended. Understanding how the trick flows is important. Many card tricks using sleight of hand can be quite tricky to figure out from the written instructions. Knowing how to use misdirection coupled with speed of movement to create the desired effect on your audience. Part 3 - Begin your practice slowly and then build up the speed Now you have all your material and understand how the trick works it is best to begin your practice slowly by working through and practicing each part of the instructions until you are creating some semblance of the illusion. You will find some parts are harder to learn than others so you will need to spend more time learning them until you feel the technique is beginning to flow. Once you have all the parts of the trick working reasonably well start building up the speed and keep practicing until performing the trick becomes second nature to you. Part 4 - Develop and learn your script Some magicians perform their tricks either silently or with a musical background and that is OK. However, if you really want to connect with your audience it is far better to develop a story to tell that works well with the trick you are performing. A major part of the illusion created by the trick is to develop words that draw your audience in without giving away too much information revealing the secret behind the trick. If the instructions you have received with the trick contain a script then you need to memorize it as it is or adapt it to suit your own particular style. Part 5 - Polishing the final package This is always the best part as it brings together all the hard work you have done before. There is no need to rush this part as every time you do it you will gradually improve your performance. This is a good time to perform the trick before friends and family to get their feedback allowing you to tweak your technique creating a better effect. If you use this 5 part system with all of your easy to learn magic tricks, focussing on one trick at a time, you will quickly develop a repertoire of tricks any audience with be pleased to spend money coming to see. |
